Road Trip: Boise 70.3

The big day is almost here!

Kyle and his brother, Kendrich, are competing in the Boise half-Ironman tomorrow. We spent all day Thursday in the car heading down. I don’t know if it’s because we made the drive so much in college or what, but there’s just something about the drive from Cd’A to Boise that I just love.

Of course the scenery is gorgeous, for the most part, but it makes me feel peaceful and at ease. It’s probably the fact that I don’t have to be at work, or taking care of housework, but I like to think it’s the drive.

We stopped in McCall for a bite to eat (as usual) and tried a Mexican place called Chapala’s. It was delicious! I’m actually munching on my leftover fajitas as I type this… mmmmmm.

Anywho… I want to check in before the race tomorrow to let you all know that you can track the boys online. I think it can only give their times at certain checkpoints, but it’s better than nothing. There’s also a live feed, blog and of course social media sites. Cool story, Apollo Ono is competing this year, we saw him at check-in today; he was being interviewed so we didn’t get to meet him. I was hoping to get a pic to show you but perhaps tomorrow. You can track his time as well if you are wanting to tap into you inner stalker.

Kyle is number 1297 and Kendrich is 1243. Just visit the Track an Athlete page on the Ironman site and select the race (or just click that hyperlink and save yourself some time).

I’ll be posting updates on Facebook and Twitter (@aknagel, #nageledit) throughout the day. Their wave doesn’t start until almost 1 p.m.

Wish them good luck!

This Weekend in North Idaho

This Weekend North Idaho

Hidy-ho neighbor! It’s Friday again so you know what that means… time for a This Weekend in North Idaho post (insert roaring applause here).

Hope you all had a great week and were able to soak in some sun. We had our second official softball practice yesterday at Ramsey and I think it went great. We’re gonna kick… butt (yay for self-censorship!).

There’s a lot going on this weekend, so let’s get to it!

Arsenic and Old Lace
This Lake City Playhouse show runs May 2-18. It’s about two old ladies who “love to serve up a nice glass of wine and arsenic to their guests with just a pinch of cyanide.” Their nephew discovers what his aunts are hiding while dealing with his crazy brothers – one of which is a murderous psychopath and another who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.

Almost Famous

OK, so not really. But for the first time ever, for one-thousandth of a second, I felt famous.

I was down at Riverstone Park waiting for our employee wellness running group so I could take pictures for their marketing materials, when some guy walked passed me and said, “Excuse me?”

I immediately had one of those mini panic attacks because I didn’t recognize him (Was it one of Kyle’s co-workers? One of my sisters’ friends?). Turns out he was just a really nice guy who’s wife READS MY BLOG! He recognized me and was nice enough to say hi (I’m really terrible at remembering names, but I think he said it was Ryan. If so: Hi Ryan and Wifey, thanks for reading!)

That definitely made my day. That, and these really cute ducks that let me take their picture.

Just a couple of ducks, sunbathing.

I liked the lady duck. She was friendly (probably because she thought I had food).

Batters up!

Happy Monday, folks! Hope you all had a great weekend and didn’t get washed away with all the rain.

In between storms on Saturday we managed to have our first softball practice at River City Lanes in Post Falls. I know, sounds weird, right? No, we weren’t throwing bowling balls at each other to hit, they have batting cages and the only slow pitch machines in the area.

It was great to finally get our team together, though there were a few still missing. Everyone looked great for our first practice – can’t wait to get out on the field and see how we do there!

Hey batter, batter…

Had to share simply for Eric’s face in the background. Love.

It sounds like our first game might be May 28 – but like I said, I’ll keep you posted. We have such a fun team – I hope you all can come support us and cheer us on and celebrate with us after. It would be so cool to be the team that actually brings a crowd to the games.

Here’s our team roster – just in case you feel like making any posters or anything ;) because you know you want to.

Megan, #2
Hilary, #5
Kyle, #6 (he’s also acting as team captain)
Dylan, #7
Mike, #8
Eric, #9
Tom, #11
Jim, #13
Clarissa, #18
Brooke, #21
Andrea (Hey that’s me!), #26

Heather, #34

Don’t worry, Clarissa had fair warning that her “don’t take my photo face” would end up online. I’m such a good friend :)

Here’s to spring and the start of softball season!
